OPERATION OUR TOWN scavenger hunt. This is an outdoor walking or driving scavenger hunt suitable for any area with shops and businesses (including malls). *This scavenger hunt will work in both large and small communities. You may need to do a bit of editing for very small towns but it's easy to do.
A note about doing this hunt in a mall: Some folks have told us that their local mall considered the scavenger hunt an "event" and it was therefore prohibited; others have told us that picture taking is not allowed. To be on the safe side, check with the mall before showing up to do this hunt.
EXAMPLES: Our Town hunt includes 20 pictures challenges (they'll make GREAT memories of the day), find items (15), a fun and creative project and a final team presentation (optional). Lots of different types of challenges to complete to keep it interesting, engaging and fun, fun, fun!

Collect an unusual, clever or creative item. Bonus points to the team that brings back the most unusual item.
2. Have your most artistic team member collaborate with someone you've
never met to draw a picture. Take a picture them in action.
3. Take a picture of 3 of your team members with a construction worker.
You must be in the classic Village People "YMCA" pose.

Lots of different types of challenges to complete to keep it interesting, engaging and fun, fun, fun!

Find a cool looking rock containing at least 5 distinct colors.
2. Have your most artistic team member collaborate with someone you've
never met to draw a picture of nature. Take a picture of them in action.
3. Take a picture of the team member who was born the furthest away from
here hugging a tree while all other team members arrange themselves in a pattern of some sort (tallest to shortest for example).

IMPORTANT: These hunts are NOT riddle hunts with clues that need to be deciphered to lead your teams from location to location.
You'll need about 2 hours minimum for this hunt . Your group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people. Each team will receive a collection bag containing a digital camera, their challenge sheet - the hunt itself - and various supplies. They will then embark on the scavenger hunt, taking pictures, obtaining specific items and completing a creative project all worth valuable points. At the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will do a final presentation or you can “grade” their clue sheets to find the winners based on point total.
THE WINNING TEAM will have had the most fun as a team while collecting the most points
NUMBER OF TEAMS or PARTICIPANTS: Unlimited. We recommend a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 10 per team. You can do this hunt with as few as 2 teams to as many as you can handle.
LENGTH OF THE HUNT: 2 to 4 hours, depending on the size of your group*: 5 minutes for opening instructions and team organization; a minimum of 1 1/2 hours for the scavenger hunt and about 1/2 hour or more for the grading, (optional) team presentations and awards presentation. *The more teams you have, the more time it will take.
PRE-HUNT PREP TIME: For up to 6 teams, you can put our scavenger hunts together in about 4-6 hours (includes shopping for supplies, reading the scavenger hunt and prepping the materials); as you add teams, you'll need to add time to the pre-hunt prep. You mostly need to print (and perhaps edit) the documents included with the kit, pack the collection bags and you'll need to get team prizes, digital cameras and other inexpensive supplies like clipboards and pens. Our facilitator guide provides a supply checklist for you.
