HOW IT WORKS: This is a find items scavenger hunt designed for an area with shops and businesses (including malls*).

*A note about doing this hunt in a mall: Some folks have told us that their local mall considered the scavenger hunt an "event" and it was therefore prohibited. To be on the safe side, check with the mall before showing up to do this hunt.

You'll need about 2 hours minimum for this hunt (unless you remove some challenges). Your group will be divided into teams of 3 to 10 people. Each team will receive a collection bag, a collections list consisting of about 80 items (each item is given a point value depending on the degree of difficulty in obtaining said item) and part one of the covert mission called Mission: Cloak and Dagger. The teams will then embark on the scavenger hunt.  During the scavenger hunt, they’ll need to meet with undercover operative(s) - usually your facilitator(s)- to receive additional Cloak and Dagger objectives. Their ultimate goal in Mission Cloak and Dagger is to collect pieces of a coded puzzle and decipher it for HUGE bonus points. At the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will prepare an optional final presentation while you “grade” their challenge sheets to find the winners based on point total (award certificates are included with this hunt). THE WINNING TEAM will have had the most fun as a team while collecting the most points.

For the TEAM BUILDING VERSION of this scavenger hunt, there will be added team meets where team members will move to other teams and additional challenges (included) will be given out. At the conclusion of the hunt, after the teams present a creative and inspiring final presentation, we recommend you have a debriefing session using the team assessment form included with your kit. TEAM OBJECTIVE: Form an efficient, effective and enthusiastic team that communicates well, works by consensus and has a definite plan of action to complete this adventure hunt. The team that does this the best will be your outstanding team of the day. (While points matter, outstanding team work matters more for this version of the game.)

*This hunt will work in both large and small communities. You may need to do a small amount of editing for very small towns but it's easy to do because it's formatted in Microsoft Word. If you want to keep this hunt in your neighborhood – no shops and businesses involved, here’s how you might adapt the hunt: Select items from the list of items we provide with this hunt (or use it as inspiration as you look at items you can use in your house) and plant enough of each item for EACH team around your property and neighborhood. You could also give some willing neighbors items for the teams to collect. In addition you can enlist a neighbor be the secret agent they need to find to collect the puzzle pieces of the Mission Cloak and Dagger. More details are provided in the hunt package.

NUMBER OF TEAMS or PARTICIPANTS: Unlimited number of teams with a minimum of 3 or 4 to a maximum of 10 people per team. We do recommend one facilitator/helper for every 2-3 teams to keep things running smoothly, especially when you grade team efforts and tally up completed challenges.

AGE RANGE: Age 10* to adult (*based on testimonials and customer feedback. If you have any questions about this hunt being suitable for your children, please contact us.)

LENGTH OF THE HUNT: 1 1/2 to 4 hours, depending on the size of your group*: 5 minutes for opening instructions; 1 1/2 - 2 hours for the scavenger hunt and about 1/2 hour or more for the grading, (optional) team presentations and awards presentation. *The more teams you have, the more time it will take. Also if you're driving to various locations instead of just walking, you'll need to add in time.

For the team BUILDING versions of the hunts, allow 2 - 4+ hours, depending on the size of your group: 15-20 minutes for opening instructions, warm up game and team organization; 1 1/2 - 2 hours for the hunt and about 1/2 hour (or more) for grading, team presentations, awards and optional but recommended team assessment discussion.

PRE-HUNT PREP TIME: For up to 6 teams, you can put our scavenger hunts together in about 3-4 hours (includes shopping for supplies, reading the scavenger hunt and prepping the materials); as you add teams, you'll need to add time to the pre-hunt prep. You mostly need to print (and perhaps edit) the documents included with the kit, pack the collection bags and you'll need to shop for team prizes as well as other inexpensive supplies like clipboards and pens. Our facilitator guide provides a supply checklist for you.
