HOW IT WORKS: This is an walking or driving scavenger hunt suitable for any area with shops and businesses (including malls). You'll need about 2 hours minimum for this hunt . Your group will be divided into teams of up to 10 people. Each team will receive a collection bag containing a digital camera, their challenge sheet - the hunt itself - and various supplies. They will then embark on the scavenger hunt, taking pictures, obtaining specific items, solving brainteasers and completing a trivia quiz - all worth valuable points. At the conclusion of the hunt, the teams will do a final presentation or you can “grade” their clue sheets to find the winners based on point total.
*This scavenger hunt party game will work in both large and small communities. You may need to do a bit of editing for very small towns but it's easy to do.
- A note about doing this hunt in a mall: Some folks have told us that their local mall considered the scavenger hunt an "event" and it was therefore prohibited; others have told us that picture taking is not allowed. To be on the safe side, check with the mall before showing up to do this hunt.
EXAMPLES: Scavenger hunt challenges are broken down into the following categories: 15 picture challenges, 20 collection challenges, a mini trivia quiz (5 questions) and 5 brainteasers to solve in exchange for play money and a final presentation (optional). Lots of different types of challenges to complete to keep it interesting, engaging and fun, fun, fun!
- Take a picture of your entire team looking like bored teenagers copping an attitude in front of a place you’d think teens would absolutely hate. Where are you and why did you select this place?
- What’s the cellular message? That’s it. You’ll know it when you get it; IF you get it. Be prepared. (More details on how to set this up are included in the hunt.)
- Collect some dog or cat kibble (worth 500 points); collect a bobby pin (worth 100 points).
NOTE: This
hunt is NOT a riddle hunt where one solves a riddle to find the item
or the next location. Brainteasers and quiz are not location
specific; we need to keep the challenges as generic as possible so they
will work anywhere in the world. We do include with your purchase our FREE 16-page how-to guide to designing a location to location riddle hunt for your city or town.
THE WINNING TEAM will have had the most fun as a team while collecting the most points
NUMBER OF TEAMS or PARTICIPANTS: Unlimited. We recommend a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 10 per team. You can do this hunt with as few as 2 teams to as many as you can handle.
LENGTH OF THE HUNT: 1 1/2 to 4 hours, depending on the size of your group*: 5 minutes for opening instructions and team organization; 1 1/2 - 2 hours for the scavenger hunt and about 1/2 hour or more for the grading, (optional) team presentations and awards presentation. *The more teams you have, the more time it will take.
PRE-HUNT PREP TIME: For up to 6 teams, you can put our scavenger hunts together in about 4-6 hours (includes shopping for supplies, reading the scavenger hunt and prepping the materials); as you add teams, you'll need to add time to the pre-hunt prep. You mostly need to print (and perhaps edit) the documents included with the kit, pack the collection bags and you'll need to get team prizes, digital cameras and other inexpensive supplies like clipboards and pens.
